S&A009: The training process to becoming an elite Olympic Weightlifter and the current state of Olympic Weightlifting in the United States with Darren Barnes

Welcome back to another episode of the strong and athletic podcast!  Today’s episode is with Darren Barrens an American Olympic Weightlifter who represented team USA many times at the international stage in the 56kg Category. Darren started Olympic weightlifting under his brother Derick and broke all the American records of each age class in his category. Furthermore, he represented Team USA in the 2009 youth world championship and the 2011 world championship and the 2012 and 2014 junior world championship. He also came first in the Junior Pan AM of 2013 and came second in the Junior Pan AM of 2014.

In today’s episode, we talk about Darren’s career and how he started Olympic weightlifting. We also talk about the training process that he underwent to prepare himself to compete at a high level and we discuss the current state of Olympic weightlifting in the United States.
